The story is about a specific time and culture that spoke to me, being an early millennial (and somehow I had almost entirely forgotten about Selena!) and part of the filipino community. At the same time, its essentially a coming of age that anyone can relate to. It was easy to get engulfed in the painstakingly detailed hand-drawn backgrounds and 90s storyline -- a few hours of nostalgia of the best sort.
I love this book -- it tackles adolescence, religion, pop culture, and family in a weird, fascinating way. Highly recommend!
