It was a good book and the author added a lot to it to make it feel like you were there. I would give it a 7 out of ten if I liked reading it would be 9 out of 10.
Our family actually listened to the audiobook of Ghetto Cowboy. I really liked the idea behind the book along with the relevance and connection to the real cowboys in Philly, but the story itself had too much teenage angst for our family's liking. It is definitely a story worth knowing but not sure I can whole heartedly recommend it.
Amazingly written in the voice of a child. Loved the interaction of the characters. Well worth the read. I would recommend all adults and children to read this one.
I downloaded this book to read with my son as a school requirement. I got so involved in the story that I began to read it without him. The young man in this story has to overcome many real-life obstacle including the feeling of abandonment by both his parents. I really enjoyed this story and will be reading more on the story of ghetto cowboys.
I ordered this book for my son's summer reading assignment prior to entering 9th grade. It arrived promptly, in fine condition, reasonably priced. My son, who has special needs and is not a fan of reading, enjoyed this book and was able to recall what he read long afterward (unusual for one with comprehension issues). I was concerned that the style of prose was a kind of street slang, rather than proper English, but my son focused on the story being told. Also liked that the story line was more positive than many of the other titles on his list. Good choice!
A great book relevant for all ages, nationalities, backgrounds, and lifestyles. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Neri during a book reading in my university class, and he's a really incredible man. I wish I had a millions copies so I could give ten to every library and school in the country.
This is a good example of low-lexile/high interest young adult fiction. My students keep picking it up for independent reading, and I think it's been passed through three hands so far. That's a success to me!
